Projects 2004-2013

From 2004-2013, the Provincial Protector of Citizens – Ombudsman (PPCO) participated in implementation of several tens of various projects. These projects were initiated and implemented either using own institutional resources or in collaboration with / with the support of various international and local institutions and organizations, provincial authorities, local self-governments, services and civil society organizations (CSOs).

Starting from the most recent, here is a list of selected projects which were either most innovative or unique at the time they were being started or implemented:

Continued field visits to settlements all over APV (around 40 a year), presenting the institution to the citizens and local public servants, collecting citizens’ complaints in field and counseling people on how to resolve their issues with relevant institutions. 


A one-year training for 12 Roma women’s activists from entire Serbia in project cycle management, communication and advocacy in the field of human, women’s and minority rights. 


A total of 21,700 brochures on children’s rights distributed to women in all 13 maternity wards in APV. 


An international conference held in Novi Sad with participation of 16 European ombudsman institutions. 


Founding and managing a network of state-governed institutions, public services and CSOs in APV dealing with issues of domestic and gender-based violence. The annual conference of the network is held every year during the 16 Days of Activism Combating Violence Against Women campaign.


Photo and poster exhibitions, public discussions, films and promo events on various topics concerning human rights, including commemoration of 60 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. 


A four-phase project with the topic of human, children’s and minority rights and their protection first involved primary school teachers’ training, including school psychologists, pedagogues and civic education teachers, in 12 primary schools in APV. Then another 468 high school students in APV were involved in peer education training on the same topics. A total of 132,000 bookmarks, school timetable sheets and parents’ memo brochures on children’s rights were distributer to high school first graders and their parents in APV. The third phase was training another 315 primary school pedagogues and psychologists in children’s rights workshop delivery and printing of the second edition of the How We Can Get Along manual. The project ended with an art exhibition in the hall of the APV Government with over 100 paintings and drawings of primary school pupils tackling children’s rights
